The Steam Deck gets dressed for winter in a limited edition

Already sold several million copies, Valve's portable console is getting a winter edition that could appeal to the undecided.

It launched the fashion for “PC consoles” like the Asus ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go, and it continues to show us all the colors. After drastically improving its screen with the OLED model released last year, Valve is now offering us, in a limited edition, to (re)discover its console in white version.

You'll have to hurry to get one.

The Steam Deck goes the opposite way to Asus' ROG Ally. This was first launched in white before getting a black dress with the ROG Ally X released this summer. For the Steam Deck, the appointment is therefore made for November 19. Please note: Valve makes it clear that this is a limited edition!

However, colors aside, it is indeed the same console as the Steam Deck OLED. A model with 1 TB of SSD storage and which obviously comes with a white protective and transport pouch.

Limited edition, perhaps, but its price remains indexed to that of the usual OLED model. You will therefore have to pay €679 to treat yourself to this snow-white Steam Deck. A lovely early Christmas gift. To purchase it, it will happen directly on Steam, Valve not (yet?) distributing its machine to partners.

What to wait for before the new model?

Some might be disappointed that Valve is not simply announcing a Steam Deck 2. It is true that the performance of its console-PC is starting to reach its limits on the most recent games. But the American firm has already communicated on this subject: the goal is not to renew the Steam Deck annually, but to let several years pass between each model in order to offer players a real leap in performance.

In this regard, AMD should soon announce its future Z2 Extreme chip, which could naturally find its place in many portable consoles. Its predecessor, the Z1 Extreme, is already comfortably installed within the ROG Ally and offers higher performance than the Steam Deck SoC is capable of deploying.

For the moment, it is still difficult to estimate the strength of the PC console market. Many take the plunge, sometimes without much conviction, but few manage to succeed. As a reminder, these machines designed on the hybrid model of the Nintendo Switch, feature a real computer operating system allowing them to launch Steam games, and even Game Pass for some.
