Amazon seems to want to diversify from smart glasses intended for the general public to those intended for businesses, since it is reportedly working on a pair of smart glasses for delivery drivers. These smart glasses will have a built-in screen that will provide delivery drivers with directions in and around buildings.

Amazon’s Echo Frames haven’t seen the same success as Meta and Ray Ban’s smart glasses, but a report says a new model is in development, with a feature that’s not not available on Meta smart glasses.

According to ReutersAmazon is working on a new pair of smart glasses codenamed Ameliawhich will allow it to improve its efficiency in the last moments of a delivery, for example inside a building. This means that smart glasses will not be intended for consumers, but for commercial use, including delivery drivers.

Although the smart glasses are said to be based on the Echo Frames (available on Amazon for $299), it won’t be an audio-only device. Reuters revealed that anonymous sources have informed them that the glasses will have a small integrated screen that will provide drivers with precise turn-by-turn directions.

The precise instructions provided to the driver could help him gain precious seconds on each delivery. Those few seconds saved on each delivery add up to a significant amount of money at the end of the day, considering the number of orders that are delivered each day.

Another benefit of smart glasses is that since they are hands-free, they allow drivers to ditch their GPS devices and free up their hands to carry more packages.

The anonymous sources also revealed that Amazon could terminate the project or postpone it indefinitely if it does not achieve the expected results or for financial reasons. If development continues, it may also take a long time to reach perfection.
