The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL were found in the Geekbench results, the opportunity to see what they are worth compared to their predecessors.

We are expecting the presentation of the Pixel 9 next October. Google is expected to unveil three devices: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. A brand new trio since we had to make do with two models until now. And today, two of them appear in Geekbench.

The first benchmark results for the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL are here. We can also learn more about their configurations. The name of the chip used is not indicated, but we know that it is the Tensor G4, not yet announced.

A Tensor G4 which is confirmed

And what is reassuring is that the information is consistent with that put forward a few weeks ago by Rozetked. We therefore go from nine cores on the Tensor G3 to eight cores on the G4, but with higher operating frequencies. Here is the order:

  • 1×Cortex-X4 (3.1 GHz)
  • 3×Cotrex-A720 (2.6 GHz)
  • 4×Cortex-A520 (1.95 GHz)

The notable difference between the Pixel 9 and its Pro XL version is the amount of installed RAM. The Pixel 9 has 8 GB compared to 16 GB of RAM for its big brother. Doubled memory is interesting for the lifespan of the device, especially with 7 years of updates from Google, but it is also a necessary condition for comfortably running AI models and their functions complete.

Unbalanced performance

In terms of performance, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is significantly above the Pixel 8 Pro (1378 vs. 1283 / 3732 vs. 3019). The trend is more vague between the Pixel 9 and its predecessor. It even seems to be beaten in multi-core tasks (3313 vs. 3874).

The Pixel 9 will launch in the fall. We are expecting devices with a redesigned design with a pill-shaped photo module that will no longer run from one side of the chassis to the other. They could use stainless steel, which would make them heavier compared to the current generation.
