Apple wants to end motion sickness with iOS 18

Travel sickness affects around 3 million people in France, mainly children (between 2 and 12 years old) and women (especially pregnant). If this pathology is completely benign, it can make even the slightest journey difficult for people prone to this “travel sickness”.

To combat this problem, Apple launched a new feature in iOS 18. The Apple brand has integrated “vehicle movement indicators” on the iPhone screen. This option is one of the many new features presented by Tim Cook and his teams last Monday during the WWDC opening conference.

Very concretely, this functionality should allow the iPhone to automatically detect the movements of a vehicle. These will then be reproduced by small black dots on the edges of the screen. A solution that should help limit travel sickness.

How to install this option on your iPhone?

For anyone prone to motion sickness, the addition of this new feature is very good news. It remains to be seen whether your iPhone is compatible with iOS 18 and this update. We have written an article listing the different devices eligible for the update. You can find it here.

Once this first step has been completed, you will need to install a beta version of iOS 18. Here again, we have detailed how to do it step by step in an article.

Once the beta version of iOS 18 is installed on your iPhone, it will be possible to activate this feature. You must go to the phone settings, then in the section “accessibility” and finally in the part “animation”. Within this submenu you must activate the “vehicle movement indicators”.

Apple will then explain to you how this option works on your iPhone. It will activate automatically as soon as the phone detects movement likely to come from a car. It will also stop automatically and intelligently.
