Almost 10 years later, the excellent Batman: Arkham game series finally has a sequel and will be available exclusively on Meta Quest 3 for a most immersive experience in the dark streets of Gotham.

Announced several weeks ago, the new game from the famous Batman: Arkham license was recently revealed during Summer Game Fest 2024, the annual event intended for video game announcements. After almost 10 years of absence, the series resurfaces with a splendid trailer. The title will be available exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and promises to be as immersive as possible, following in the footsteps of the last opus and first in virtual reality in the saga: Batman: Arkham VR. We tell you what we know about the new Batman: Arkham Shadow.

A Story Trailer for Batman: Arkham Shadow

While gameplay sequences were expected, it was ultimately a story-focused trailer that was presented at Summer Game Fest. We then learn that in this new adventure, Batman will be confronted with the Rat King: a rather unknown antagonist who has already been seen in our cinemas with the second Suicide Squad released in 2021. This character is known to know the underbelly of Gotham and this is what is highlighted in the trailer. The city is presented to us as being taken by storm by the darkness that inhabits it. Fear reigns in the streets and it will be up to the Dark Knight to bring Gotham out of this torment.

Games to watch closely for DC fans

It is no coincidence that it is the story that is highlighted rather than the gameplay in this first trailer. Indeed, the scenario is likely to have great importance for DC fans since James Gunn wishes to unify the license’s video games with his new DCU. We then risk seeing events in future films linked to those in video games. An initiative which shows once again to what extent video games are a rich and inspiring medium and which is established in the same way as cinema or series. Star Wars develops its general script in the same way by declaring its latest video game titles (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order And Star Wars Jedi: Survivor) as being “canons”.

Fans know that the Batman: Arkham games developed by Rocksteady have always been a success. However this time, the studio behind the new title is no longer the same, it is Camouflaj in collaboration with Oculus Studios. Both are small companies specializing in VR gaming. However, this does not prevent the team from being aware of the stakes of such a title and reassures fans on their official website:

We intend to build on the famous foundation laid by the legendary team at Rocksteady, and we very much want to do them justice. Batman: Arkham Shadow has been designed from day one to be the ultimate VR game and take full advantage of Meta Quest 3 »

If for the moment, no release date has been specified for the project, it is however guaranteed to be released before the end of 2024.
