As part of a preview reserved for the press, we were able to discover the start of Shadow of the Erdtree, the DLC for Elden Ring. Believe us, it’s not easy, and there’s a very good reason for that.

Through the power of press-only events, the doors to Shadow of the Erdtree were opened for a few hours. Yes, we had the chance to preview the Elden Ring DLC, expected on June 21 on PC, PS4, PS5, One and Xbox Series! The opportunity to see what changes in the Kingdom of Shadows – the size of which is equivalent to Necrolimbe – compared to Between-Earth. In any case, there is always a challenge, and whatever your level matters.

A new progression system

In fact, in Shadow of the Erdtree, there is a new progression system that is independent of your character’s level (which allows FromSoftware to reset the “counters” when you enter the Realm of Shadows and to offer a challenge equivalent to everyone, whatever your level). This system of progression is structured around Scadutree Fragmentsobjects that appear to have fallen from the “evil” World Tree and are found at the foot of each Miquella track – as well as in other locations on the map. These fragments, once used at a Site of Grace, improve your damage and defense, and seem almost obligatory in order to progress peacefully in the DLC. For our part, for example, we had a bad time facing the Divine Beast, the famous boss which looks like a giant articulated lion.

It’s certain: the more Scadutree Fragments the player finds, the easier their journey into the Realm of Shadows will be. It is also interesting to note that there is a second type of fragment, the Revered Spirit Ashes, this time dedicated to improving Spirit Ashes and your faithful mount, Torrent. All in all, you will have significant power gains, but which will only be valid in the Shadow Realm… Indeed, Shard power does not work in Mid-Earthbut will return as soon as you return to the DLC-exclusive area.

Additions that hit the mark

For the rest, FromSoftware makes FromSoftware, and all the additions we encountered do Elden Ring proud. Whether in terms of animations, character design, artistic direction, Shadow of the Erdtree appears to keep all its promises. Even the new weapons fit very well into the base so far. For our part: for example, we tested martial arts, throwing knives, long swords (whose attacks resemble a dance) as well as axes and hammers that can now be thrown tomahawk style. In short, we can’t wait for June! For more details on our Shadow of the Erdtree preview, watch the video in the header.
