The KitKat “Break Better” 2024 ad

When work is getting to us, it’s time to take a break. This is more or less the message sent to us KitKat in its new advertising campaign. This one, entitled “Break Better” features a young man at work. The latter is overwhelmed and seems at the end of his rope.

He suddenly decides to take a well-deserved break. The man then leaves his office, under the watchful eye of his colleagues. He is pursued by wild post-its which stick all over his body, but also by his computer which has no intention of letting go and a board which follows suit and by other tools and files. Once outside, he sits on a bench in a park. He can finally get some fresh air. The man then takes out his Kitkat from his pocket and bites into it. A man also overwhelmed by his work tools comes and sits next to him. He then offers her to taste his Kitkat.

What is the music in the ad?

To accompany the film of this new campaign, Kitkat chose the group’s song Queen « I Want To Break Free ». The latter was released in 1984. It’s an iconic song, famous for its catchy beat, its message of liberation and its iconic music video. Written by bassist John Deacon, the song expresses an intense desire to break free from constraints. It has been interpreted by many as a hymn to individual freedom.

The music video for the song, which shows the band members dressed as women in a parody of the British television series Coronation Streetwas revolutionary for its time. Freddie Mercury, dressed in a daring outfit with curly hair and a vacuum cleaner, became an unforgettable image that left its mark. This humorous and provocative production was, however, poorly received in the United States, where it was censored by some channelsbut it remained a bold symbol of self-deprecation and refusal of established norms.

Queen is one of the most iconic and influential bands in rock history. Founded in 1970 in London, the group is made up of Freddie Mercury (vocals and piano), Brian May (guitar), Roger Taylor (battery) and John Deacon (low). Queen is famous for its unique blend of musical genres, ranging from rock to pop, opera, funk and even disco. The group has produced numerous worldwide hits, including:

« Bohemian Rhapsody » which has become one of the most iconic pieces in music history. « We Will Rock You » et « We Are the Champions » or even « Another One Bites the Dust » et « Radio Ga Ga ».

Despite the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991Queen remains a timeless reference. Their music continues to attract millions of fans and inspire many artists. The biographical film Bohemian Rhapsody released in 2018 revived the group’s popularity with new generations. This proves that Queen’s work is universal and timeless.
