HTC is not dead and launches an attractive smartphone

HTC is a familiar name for those who have followed the world of smartphones since its beginnings. Before the birth of Samsung’s Galaxy or Sony’s Xperia, HTC made its mark by marketing the first Android smartphone. The G1 – or HTC Dream in France – marks the beginning of the rise of the Google-backed operating system. The Taiwanese brand will also have an important role and will even be at the origin of Google’s Nexus One and the first Pixels. Unable to keep up with the pace led by Samsung, Apple and the arrival of Chinese brands, HTC will withdraw from the smartphone market to move towards other segments. However, the firm has not completely given up and regularly remembers us by launching new smartphones.

The former giant of the Android universe has just unveiled the HTC U24 Pro, an interesting smartphone in many ways and which logically succeeds the U23 Pro. HTC’s new device offers an interesting technical sheet, starting with a 6.8-inch OLED screen in Full HD+ definition (1,080 x 2,436 pixels). The panel benefits from a refresh rate of 120 Hz and has Corning Gorilla Glass protective glass. Inside, HTC offers a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 associated with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage in UFS 3.1. It is even possible to add a microSD card to expand the storage part of the device.

A rather high-end and affordable smartphone

In 2024, we are mainly interested in the photo aspect and the HTC U24 Pro does not deserve it. It comes with a trio of sensors, including a 50-megapixel main sensor (f/1.88, wide-angle, OIS) capable of recording videos up to 4K at 30 fps. HTC adds a 50-megapixel telephoto lens (f/2.2) with 2x optical zoom and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens (f/2.2). The latter also serves as a depth module while a 50 Mpx camera takes place at the front.

HTC mentions the presence of a photo application enhanced by AI, in order to improve the rendering of images and the user experience.

The manufacturer adds a battery with a capacity of 4,600 mAh, compatible with 60 W fast charging and 15 W wireless charging. The rest of the configuration includes IP67 certification, a fingerprint sensor under the screen, as well as as Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and 5G. There is even a 3.5mm jack for connecting headphones or wired earphones. The whole thing runs on Android 14 and the smartphone has dimensions of 167.1 x 74.9 x 9 mm for a weight of 199 grams.

Price and availability: it is arriving in France

The HTC U24 Pro has just been made official. It already appears on the brand’s French website, at a price of 549 euros. It is not yet possible to order it and HTC, which has been in decline for many years, will undoubtedly have difficulty finding a place on the market.
