Video games have long been the poor relation of the Apple universe. Apple brand computers have never been known for their gaming performance, and most video game publishers have abandoned Macs in favor of PCs. But that was before. Since the arrival of Apple Silicon chips, Macs have taken a leap forward in performance, and the Apple brand has decided to attack a market that it had until then neglected: that of gaming.

During the presentation of macOS Sequoia, Craig Federighi, Apple’s vice president of software design, talked about gaming and gave some examples of games that exploit the power of Apple Silicon Macs, thanks to Metal 3, the new version of Apple’s graphics API. Among these games, we find Death Stranding, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the new game from Ubisoft which will be available on Mac and iPad from November.

But macOS Sequoia doesn’t just improve video game performance on Macs. The new version of Apple’s operating system also brings new features for gamers. Among them, we find the Game Porting Toolkit 2which makes porting Windows games to macOS and porting macOS games to iOS and iPadOS even simpler.

New games are also coming to macOS Sequoia, such as Frostpunk 2, the new strategy game from 11 bit studios, or Control, the action-adventure game from Remedy Entertainment. And that’s not all: Marc-Alexis Côté, executive vice-president and creative director of Ubisoft, came to present the French publisher’s new features on macOS Sequoia. And suddenly, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will arrive on the Mac in November, as on other platforms.
