Quebecers are sometimes much closer to Americans on several political issues than they think, believes host Isabelle Maréchal, who believes that lessons should be learned from the American election.

The QUB radio host was not surprised when she learned that one in five Canadians would vote for Donald Trump, according to a Léger poll which was unveiled at the end of October.
“As North Americans and as Quebecers, we are not deaf to certain trends,” she explained in an interview with LCN on Tuesday.
According to her, the significant inflation in recent months but also the immigration issues can affect Quebecers as much as the Americans, who had an electoral race which notably revolved around these issues.
“I think there are indeed a lot of people who watch this from here and then say to themselves: ‘If I were in the United States, I would vote for Donald Trump,’” said M.me Marshal. “Trump is still intelligent enough to understand the intelligence of the citizen and to say things that will strike a chord.”
The host also notices a form of “political disengagement” among citizens of the two countries, who no longer feel challenged by electoral campaigns.
“We are much closer to the Americans than we sometimes want to accept,” she stressed.
“We can learn from what is happening there because, precisely, there are decisions that will come, we will have to decide on the next Prime Minister of Canada, on what we want in Quebec,” he said. -she considered.
