(SenePlus) – According to information reported by Fortune magazine, Apple is launching a bold challenge to the hacker community by offering up to a million dollars to those who manage to compromise the security of its servers.
This spectacular initiative from the technology giant, valued at $3.5 trillion, comes in the context of the deployment of its new “Apple Intelligence” service, integrated into iOS 18.1. At the heart of this system is the Private Cloud Compute (PCC) server, a critical infrastructure that the company wishes to protect against any form of computer attack.
“We are making these resources available to the public today to invite all security and privacy researchers – or anyone interested and technically curious – to learn more about the CCP and conduct their own independent verification of our claims,” Apple said in a statement cited by Fortune.
The rewards program is structured on a sliding scale. For an accidental data disclosure due to a configuration problem, the bounty is $50,000. Running unattested code earns $100,000. Access to user query data outside the trust zone is rewarded up to $150,000, while access to sensitive user query information can reward up to $250,000.
The ultimate reward of one million dollars will be paid to anyone who manages to execute “arbitrary code without the permission or knowledge of the user, with arbitrary rights”, specifies Fortune.
Apple calls its PCC infrastructure “the most advanced security architecture ever deployed for cloud AI computing at scale.” The company has even published a security guide detailing how the server works and made part of the source code available on GitHub.
Notably reported by Fortune, Apple is also committing to considering rewards for discovering security vulnerabilities not specifically listed in its program, demonstrating its determination to strengthen the security of its infrastructure.
