It’s during Summer Game Fest that Atlus, the studio behind the Persona games, will give us more information on its next big original title: Metaphor: ReFantazio.

A month ago, Atlus live-streamed a 25-minute presentation of their next game Metaphor: ReFantazio. Katsura Hasino, the game director, was present to explain several details about the content of the software and its gameplay. The official account of the development studio in charge of the title announced on X that a new presentation of the game will be held during Summer Game Fest. This is scheduled for the night from Friday to Saturday, more precisely at 3:00 a.m., we imagine that only the most determined will see the presentation live!

Studio Zero for their first game

If Metaphor: ReFantazio draws its inspiration from the Persona games and certain mechanics seem to come back to the forefront, it is not without reason. The development team responsible for the game, Studio Zero, is one of the creative departments at Atlus, which, in total, has 3 departments, each responsible for certain games. For Studio Zero, the objective is to offer original games that have no direct link with previous Atlus franchises. This initiative was launched by Katsura Hasino, who in addition to being director of Metaphor: ReFantazio, is also responsible for the development of original content (unrelated to Persona or Shin Megame Tensei).

Katsura Hashino was previously the director of Studio-P, another branch of Atlus which was in charge of the development of the Persona games from the third installment onwards. After the launch of the fifth major title in the Japanese franchise, the former director decided to end his involvement in the creation of Atlus’ flagship games. Mainly because according to him, “Persona 5 marked a change in the general direction of the series”. From then on, he began developing Metaphor: ReFantazio with his new team.

What to expect ?

The next original game from Atlus will offer a varied combat system, with the possibility of playing turn-based, but also of fighting opponents in real time (only if your level is higher than that of the enemies). The Archetype system offers the possibility of acquiring various skills and specializing your characters in a very particular style of play. This offers the possibility of replaying the title and encourages players to rethink their combat strategies throughout the adventure. If you are interested in the game, know that it will be available on October 11, 2024 on PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series.
