A tasty PS5 exclusive

Team Ninja is definitely a studio with impressive productivity. After releasing Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty in 2023 as a (temporary) exclusive on PC and Xbox, the firm quickly followed up with Rise of the Ronin, this time flirting with Sony since it is a PS5 exclusive. The game was released at the beginning of the year and put us in the shoes of a ronin at the end of the Edo period, in an open world mixing exploration, narration and very demanding combat.

A good adventure with certain qualities: “the fights are successful (and rely on some pretty crazy richness), the exploration is not very organic but remains enjoyable and Team Ninja exploits the “Bakumatsu” period well, particularly in its writing”we concluded in our test last March. A title that can also be found in boxes on PS5 in reduction at the moment.

Good results and a lot of ambition

Rather well received, Rise of the Ronin especially achieved good commercial scores. Koei Tecmo, publisher and parent company of Team Ninja, recently delivered its financial forecasts for the new fiscal half-year, which will end on March 31, 2025. Inside, it is repeated several times that the PlayStation 5 exclusive sold wellwithout highlighting a precise figure: these figures have in any case contributed to ensuring that “overall sales have exceeded expectations”, thus pushing the firm to revise its objectives upwards.

We also learn that the publisher wants to capitalize more on large productions in the long term – the opportunity to recall that it recently opened a new studio dedicated to AAA games – and that it wishes to achieve a specific objective : become one of the ten most profitable video game companies in the world. A not so lunar goal since in 2022, it ranked in 17th place and in 2023, in 14th.

For the current semester, Koei Tecmo will therefore be released Fairy Tale 2 in December 2024, Dynasty Warriors: Origins in January 2025 (referred to as a “major game” in the document) and Yuma Workshop in March.
