The long-awaited new Freebox Ultra TV box is in the pipeline, but Free has not yet defined a launch date or month. However, the operator shares with us his questions about the ingredients to put in order not to miss things.

During Free Communities Day on October 18 at Iliad headquarters, Free confirmed that a new Player for the Freebox Ultra is still in preparation. Implicitly, there will be a delay as often. Today and for many months, Free has been actively working on this project, while wondering about the elements to include in the hardware to offer a real “wow effect” to its users.
Xavier Niel and his team are also wondering about the innovations to be made, which is proving to be a significant challenge, particularly regarding the choice of operating system, an in-house OS or Android. Free wants to offer a product that stands out, but takes the time to analyze the best options to meet the expectations of subscribers, who today expect a powerful box, worthy of the operator’s very high-end server.
On the occasion of the launch of the Freebox Ultra on January 30, Xavier Niel had already offered us some interesting revelations. If the launch of this new box was therefore marked by the absence of a new dedicated Player, a first for Free, its founder then announced that a new Player was under development, even if its launch does not coincide with that of the Freebox Ultra. Xavier Niel had already clarified that this project is “very late”, although marketing seemed initially planned around 3 months later, in April. Finally, note that this new Player may not be exclusive to the Freebox Ultra, giving hope for a more extensive offer for Free subscribers.
