It all started with a publication on Linkedin shared by Leonard Torrey, co-founder of the AI ​​company Thoughtly. In it, he congratulates his business partner, Mackrell Casey, for bringing out a laptop to his own wedding to work on.

“Last week, my co-founder recruited a client who was going to launch his business in the next two weeks. It turns out he was getting married in that time frame,” says Leonard Torrey.

“So, here he is, finishing up his work. At his own wedding. Congratulations Casey. Now, please go get some rest,” he continued. A message which is accompanied by a photo where we can actually see the young groom glued to his screen, while his guests dance in front of him.

The post quickly went viral. The Linkedin message received hundreds of comments, mostly negative, and was re-shared en masse on various social networks.

“Your company has such a bad work/life balance that you can’t have a WEDDING without having to work? That’s really sad,” one user said. “Someone who really knows how to do things would have canceled the prenup when they saw this,” suggests another.

Some even went so far as to imply that the post was staged to create buzz because “no one can be so ridiculous and disrespectful to their bride and family.”

A task of a few minutes

However, the photo is indeed authentic. Leonard Torrey, the groom’s partner explained in an interview with news.com that their company’s activities included “very high stakes.” “We work with many publicly traded companies around the world and we spend long hours at night, awake early in the morning, monitoring these calls and proactively resolving issues.”

“As part of his job, he had to solve a problem, and it was really something only he could solve. It was a task that took between three and five minutes,” he said. added, specifying that he understood that this “way of life does not suit everyone”.

The groom was in fact forced to transmit to one of his colleagues a code which could not be obtained only from his personal computer. “Don’t worry,” jokes the latter in a comment on the publication. “I was dancing and drinking champagne again 2 seconds later.”
