A senseless tragedy occurred on September 28 in Taylor, a peaceful town in the suburbs of Detroit (Michigan). That afternoon, Jason Lilburn and his wife left their two daughters at home, entrusting their eldest, 13, with the role of babysitter for his youngest, 7, explains Fox 2. According to investigators, Tension rose between the two sisters when the youngest left a note in the bathroom, asking users to flush the toilet.
According to Inspector Zachary DiGiacomo, the teenager grabbed this note. While trying to retrieve it, Jessie Jane accidentally knocked over the trash can in the kitchen, and “there was trash everywhere,” the police officer explains. The eldest returned to her room, where she stayed for about half an hour. She then headed to the bathroom with a “butcher-style knife” and stabbed her little sister.
The teenager didn’t stop there, as she went for a larger knife and attacked Jessie Jane again, stabbing her more than ten times. The girl died of her injuries in hospital. It seems that the attacker called the emergency services herself after her act. During her interrogation, the young girl showed no emotion. “She didn’t deny anything at all and described the incident in detail,” says Zachary DiGiacomo. The teenager, whose first name has not been released, has been charged with premeditated murder and will be tried as a minor.
“Little JJ… Jessie Jane… She was a ray of sunshine, she always wanted to be outside, riding her bike. Even in our worst nightmares, we don’t imagine that something like this could happen,” his father told WXYZ on Thursday. According to Jason Lilburn, his two daughters had “normal arguments between sisters” and no violent episodes had occurred between them before this tragedy. “I am devastated by the fact that Jessie is no longer with us and by the amount of love for her,” confides the victim’s father, moved by the memorial created in front of his house.
