A very fluid screen
While the majority of gaming laptops adopt many geometric details, angular and thick lines with a good dose of backlighting, some brands choose to design more sober and classic machines, like HP with its Victus 15 model. fa1001sf. The latter thus sports a more minimalist design, with a fairly versatile matte gray chassis. Its weight of 2.2 kg, however, brings it closer to many other laptops designed for gaming, much heavier than ultrabooks in particular because of their powerful components. On this chassis, we also find rather extensive connectivity with a SuperSpeed USB-C port, two SuperSpeed USB-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an RJ-45 port and a headphone/microphone combo jack.
On the screen side, the HP Victus 15-fa1001sf integrates a 15.6-inch IPS panel, which offers wide viewing angles and good reproduction of the color palette. The Full HD definition (1920 x 1080 pixels) allows you to enjoy very clear images. The icing on the cake is that the screen also has a refresh rate of 144 Hz, which promises exemplary fluidity, essential for fast games that require good responsiveness, such as FPS.
Powerful components for nervous combos
Inside this machine, there is first of all an RTX 4050, which represents the entry level of the 4000 series. Which does not prevent it from launching recent AAA titles in 1080p, even if its VRAM of only 6 GB is a bit limited. This graphics card fortunately gives us the benefit of Nvidia technologies such as ray-tracing and DLSS 3; the first makes images more realistic, while the second will create additional images using AI to benefit from a more detailed and sharp rendering, while promising optimized performance. But be careful, to keep a minimum FPS, you must not overdo it.
On the CPU side, we are entitled to an Intel Core i5-12500H, whose Turbo Boost mode can reach 4.5 GHz. Of course, this is not the latest generation of Intel Core processors, but the tasks should still come together quickly. Everything is completed by 16 GB of RAM to manage multitasking, as well as a 512 GB SSD, which promises to reduce game loading times and speed up laptop launches. Finally, Windows 11 is indeed here. And in terms of autonomy, don’t expect to be able to stay away from an outlet for a long time with such a resource-intensive configuration, but the brand ensures that charging allows you to recover 50% of the battery in 30 minutes.
