This week, Huawei held a global launch event in Dubai. The opportunity for the Chinese manufacturer to lift the veil on its new affordable connected watch, the Huawei Watch Fit 3, but also to present new inexpensive wireless headphones, the Huawei FreeBuds 6i.

As their name suggests, these new headphones succeed the FreeBuds 3i, FreeBuds 4i and FreeBuds 5i, models that are often very well positioned in Huawei’s range, which offer more than adequate active noise reduction, good audio quality, good wearing comfort and all at prices which generally do not exceed 100 euros.

The new Huawei FreeBuds 6i are no exception to the rule, at least on paper. Like previous iterations, the headphones offer an active noise reduction system in addition to their in-ear format. Huawei indicates in particular that it has integrated three microphones per earphone in order to better analyze the sound environment.

Headphones that focus heavily on bass

The headphones are also equipped with dynamic transducers of 11 mm in diameter allowing, according to the manufacturer, to emphasize the bass with a frequency response that can go down to 14 Hz. The FreeBuds 6i are also certified Hi-Res Audio Wireless and compatible with AAC, SBC and, probably LHDC, Bluetooth audio codecs – although this is not confirmed by the manufacturer. They are also compatible with multipoint Bluetooth and can connect to two devices simultaneously — for example a Windows PC and an Android smartphone.

The headphones also benefit from IP54 certification to protect them against splashes, rain or sweat. Concerning autonomy, Huawei announces up to 5 hours of use with noise reduction for the headphones alone, and 20 hours with the charging case.

For now, Huawei has not yet announced the availability date or price of its FreeBuds 6i. If the manufacturer sticks to its usual pricing policy, the headphones should be offered at a price of less than 100 euros. The headphones will be offered in three colors: purple, black and white.
