To enhance interactions between connected users, WhatsApp is adding two features that bring the application closer to social networks. The “likes” and private mentions are coming.
WhatsApp is above all an instant messaging application that relies on its end-to-end encryption for the security of exchanges. Little by little, through updates, the application is getting closer and closer to social networks. The News tab and the section dedicated to Communities are good examples. With the two new features currently being deployed, WhatsApp offers possibilities specific to social networks such as Facebook and Instagram. Not surprising when we know that the three belong to the same entity, namely Meta.
So, it will now be possible to place a “like” on a status by simply pressing a green heart-shaped button. However, there is no timer and the interaction remains private. Only the person concerned will see this. In addition, to try to give more visibility to statuses, or simply to share them with more people, it will be possible to use private mentions. As the name of the feature suggests, you will be able to mention your loved ones privately to ensure that they can view your status, or even re-share it. Of course, this mention will not appear in said status. Meta will soon push the concept further since the company is already promising additional features for the Status and News tabs.
