Despite significantly declining sales, against a backdrop of contraction in the smartphone market, the iPhone remains very popular around the world.
This was one of Apple’s big issues when announcing its financial results; iPhone sales were down significantly year-on-year. But that doesn’t stop Apple’s smartphone from maintaining a solid lead over the competition.
The iPhone present en masse in the Top 10 sales
This is in any case what the latest ranking established by Counterpoint confirms, and which concerns the first three months of 2024 – i.e. the first quarter, just before the closing of Apple’s results on March 31. We discover that the iPhone is present in the first four places of the Top 10, top in which Apple places five of its models.
The most popular is, despite its very high price, the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It has a market share of 4.4% compared to 4.3% for the iPhone 15 – the entry-level iPhone 15 -, followed by the iPhone 15 Pro at 3.7 and the iPhone 14 at 1.9%.
To find the competition, you have to go to fifth place, where the Galaxy S24 ultra is on par with the iPhone 14 with 1.9% market share, followed by the Galaxy A15 5G (1.5%) and the Galaxy A54 (1.4%).
The iPhone 15 Plus is not left out, since it is eighth at 1.3%, while we find the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy A34 in ninth and tenth place.
Last year, the iPhone 14 was in first place, ahead of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The share of premium smartphones gains one point, being present seven times, compared to six in 2023, even though the market is doing poorly.
Counterpoint adds that the popularity of Apple’s “Pro” line has only increased over the years. From 24% of sales in 2020, it now accounts for almost half, explains the analysis firm, despite sharp declines in Chinese sales.
