Troubling Arc Battlemage Rumor Suggests Possible Delay or Even Cancellation of Intel’s Next GPU Architecture

When it comes to discrete GPUs, Intel has Arc Battlemage (Xe2-HPG), Arc Celestial (Xe3-HPG), and Arc Druid (Xe Next) on its roadmap. Between Intel revealing that the Battlemage software is under development and Battlemage SKUs being spotted online, we can assume that the Battlemage is almost complete and will launch sometime this year.

However, Chinese serial leaker Golden Pig Upgrade claims that “there is no trace of Battlemage”, meaning that Intel Arc Battlemage could have been delayed or, in the worst case, shelved altogether. If Arc Battlemage is delayed or canceled, it would be a major blow to Intel’s GPU ambitions, as the company also struggled to release first-generation Arc dGPUs.

Additionally, Golden Pig Upgrade also mentions that there will be “no DG3 next year.” This appears to be an error, as DG3 refers to Battlemage and not Celestial, the architecture that will follow Battlemage. As for Arc Celestial, Moore’s Law is Dead suggested in early 2023 that the Arc Celestial only has a single 180mm2 chip that will use the TSMC N3X process.
