Advertorial: “I always wanted to work in sales”

Lorenzo, 18 years old, apprentice at Coop

Meeting with Lorenzo Della Gola Bigliotti, 18 years old, apprentice retail assistant at Coop Supermarché Allaman Littoral. A dynamic and passionate young man, who tells us about his career and his professional aspirations with enthusiasm.

It’s six o’clock in the morning this Wednesday. Allaman and its station are practically deserted, and a thick night still envelopes the Littoral Center Allaman. However, inside the shopping center, there is already light. Behind the scenes, there is intense activity: the center is preparing for the opening. In the food departments, staff are already busy installing fresh products for the opening.

It is near the island reserved for the caterer, between the bakery and butcher’s departments, that we find Lorenzo Della Gola Bigliotti. A place that is still quiet at this early hour, but which will soon become a regular place of passage for many customers.

The 18-year-old young man welcomes us with a frank smile and an energetic handshake. Lorenzo is an apprentice retail assistant at the Littoral Center Allaman where he is completing his first year of apprenticeship.

While he is being asked questions, Lorenzo puts on an apron and gloves so that he can carry out his first task of the morning: preparing sandwiches. “It’s the first thing we do in the morning so that customers can, as soon as they open, leave with a fresh morning sandwich,” explains the young resident of Morges, spreading pesto on baguettes freshly taken from the oven. “It’s nice to work in peace in the morning. Everyone does their job, there is not too much noise. But I still prefer the middle of the day, Lorenzo concedes, when it starts to get crowded and things are moving!”

Lorenzo, 18, makes sure the fresh produce is ready on time.

Motivating work

As he inserts slices of tomatoes and mozzarella onto the pesto, Lorenzo explains what appealed to him about this training: “I did an internship here at the Littoral Center Allaman and I appreciated the fact of being able to do culinary preparations in addition to work on the shelves.”

Lorenzo’s training as a retail assistant will allow him to tour all the food sections of the hypermarket. From general food, which includes chips as well as oils or the chocolate section, to vegetables, including the catering corner, where our young learner will prepare various homemade preparations, which the brand will put on the shelves, tartare sandwiches, slicing cold meats or assembling poke bowls.

“I always knew I wanted to work in sales,” says Lorenzo. Originally, I was thinking of working in real estate, but I searched for a year without success, blaming Covid. He then went to the Transition School, formerly called Opti, for a year. There, with other young people who had completed compulsory school, he was supported to find his place of apprenticeship.

“That’s when I heard about this retail assistant training. I did an internship and I liked it!” He then signs his contract and begins his apprenticeship at the following school year.

He talks about his work with enthusiasm and enthusiasm: “I love preparing pizzas,” declares the young man who is almost two meters tall. But what I really enjoy most about my job is the relationship with customers: advising them and answering their questions.”

A foot in the world of work

Our young Morgien works five days a week with not always regular hours, but that doesn’t bother him. “At the beginning, it wasn’t easy to get up so early in the morning, but with time you get into the rhythm,” he comments. And he is delighted to be able to enjoy an extra afternoon off.

Thus, this great football fan and fervent supporter of Juventus Turin can then devote a moment to his passion. Although he was still playing in a club recently, today he only kicks the ball with his group of friends: a heel injury kept him away from the field.

“Right now I’m focusing on my learning. I might start playing club football again afterwards, if my heel feels better,” he says.

And when he’s not playing football? “I spend time with family, with my grandparents or with my girlfriend,” explains this young person who is also passionate about fashion.

“Sandwiches are the first thing we make in the morning,” explains Lorenzo Della Gola Bigliotti, apprentice at Coop Supermarché Allaman Littoral.

A future that is already taking shape

As the morning progresses, Lorenzo goes on break. About twenty minutes that he uses to chat with his colleagues. “I get along well with everyone! And especially with the other apprentices. We often eat together at lunchtime,” he says.

On his return, while we chat, Lorenzo makes yet another kind of sandwich before moving on to margherita pizzas. We see that the young man is used to making these preparations. He shows impressive ease, even though we watch him work and he is photographed!

However, when we ask him if these few cooking gestures gleaned at work have changed the way he prepares food, he concedes that no… At home, he hardly cooks. “Except plain pasta! And sometimes pizza…”

After his apprenticeship, our young football fan sees himself remaining in the Coop stores: “I would like to climb the corporate ladder. Become a department manager and why not one day be a store manager.”

That’s all we can wish for him!
