Have you turned on your PS5 and seen how your menu has filled up with “strange” ads and promotions? You probably thought this was some annoying “new thing” from Sony but, thankfully, that’s not the case. The culprit of all this was a bugwhich replaced the games’ artistic backgrounds with somewhat outdated promotional messages.
Earlier this week, many gamers took to social media to complain that the image that appeared when selecting a game had completely disappeared. Panels that normally appeared in sections like news now displayed after selecting specific games, like Final Fantasy VII Remake or Hi-Fi Rush. Regarding Spain, the problem occurred with games belonging to the series Call of Duty.
For example, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales showed an ad with the ” next » theatrical release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. In reality, there was nothing “coming soon”, since the film was released in June 2023. In the case of NBA 2K25we could see the advertising for the early access of the game, which was already released almost a month ago.
In a now deleted post, Daniel Hiattproduct manager at Game Hub and Activity Suggestions at PlayStation, wrote this past Monday that the change was due to “ a (new) bug with an already existing function ».
Shortly after, ads have been removed from the menu and panels with video game art have found their place. From the account Ask PlayStationthey clarified that it was “a technical error with the Official News function on the PS5 console” and that, fortunately, it “ has been resolved ».
Sony also confirmed in the same post that “there have been no changes to the way video game news is displayed on the PS5.”
