Apple’s explosive cocktail for the home is approaching

Apple seems to be preparing a new device for the home, which would combine a touch screen, a speaker and an Apple TV. The product, which has been in the rumor mill for years, has been given juicy new details.

If there is no smoke without fire, then there is little doubt thatApple is actively working on a brand new product for the home. Previous tvOS 18 betas contained quite a few hints about such a device, such as a touch interface that is not intended forApple TVni au HomePod (the speaker’s operating system being a derivative of tvOS).

The device in question (which is codenamed J490) would be a mix between a HomePod with Apple TV functions, all enhanced with a touch screen. According to 9to5Macthis screen would be more square than rectangular. It will be used more for consulting the internet or using applications than for watching films or TV series.

A camera would also be integrated into the front for video calls, but also to follow hand movements: this will be practical for controlling the application interface in the kitchen, with fingers full of flour. This sensor would even be able to identify the user in front of it; as with the HomePod which “recognizes” the person who is speaking, this functionality would allow personalized responses to be given, such as upcoming appointments.

The device would also function as an AirPlay receiver, meaning it could stream music or videos sent from an iPhone. Finally, under the hood, we should find an A18 chip, which equips the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. It is not very difficult to imagine that the machine will also have 8 GB of RAM, which will allow it to be Apple Intelligence compatible.

The site also predicts a launch sometime next spring.
