Škoda Auto introduces the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo, an all-electric concept car, in the Gran Turismo 7 game on PlayStation, expanding the automaker’s presence in the gaming world.

Inspired by the Škoda 1100 OHC Spider from 1957, the all-electric, all-wheel-drive Škoda Vision Gran Turismo is equipped with four electric motors, delivering a total power of 800 kW*.

“The history and successes of Škoda Motorsport date back more than 120 years, and we continue this legacy by launching into previously unexplored worlds. Joining the world of e-racing by launching a new virtual concept car in the world’s most popular racing game, Gran Turismo, was a great challenge. The Škoda Vision Gran Turismo concept links our heritage, our electric future and our new Modern Solid design. Our customers like to explore new territories, and the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo is part of this logic. »

Klaus Zellmer, Director Škoda Auto

Škoda debuts one of the most popular PlayStation games

For the first time, Škoda and the Vision Gran Turismo concept car are making their debut in the popular game Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 4 and 5. Developed exclusively for this platform, the Vision GT concept is a fully electric racing car. By joining one of the most famous racing simulation games, Škoda demonstrates its commitment to innovation while approaching new targets and responding to requests from the gaming community to introduce the Czech brand into the game .

Tribute to the Škoda 1100 OHC Spider

The Škoda Vision Gran Turismo is inspired by the 1957 Škoda 1100 OHC Spider, developed to compete in the 24 Hours of . Under the direction of Oliver Stefani, the Škoda design team imagined an open single-seater, combining design elements from the legendary 1100 OHC with new features such as a two-piece rear wing. In addition, the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo incorporates features of Škoda’s new Modern Solid design. These include T-shaped headlights and Explorer Green body color. A total of four electric motors with a combined power of 800 kW* and 1,020 Nm of torque, coupled with the vehicle’s all-wheel drive and aerodynamic qualities, ensure remarkable performance whatever the track conditions.

Sharp lines, pronounced edges, cutting-edge aerodynamics and two color variants

The low and elongated body of the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo gives it a very modern and futuristic look. The dynamic exterior of the concept car is characterized by sharp lines and clearly defined edges. Active aerodynamic components, such as the two-part rear wing designed by Škoda, adapt to driving conditions. This guarantees excellent handling and, in combination with the four electric motors, a perfectly calibrated ratio between performance and efficiency. Players can choose between two paint finishes for their Škoda Vision Gran Turismo: one reminiscent of the famous Škoda 130 RS, celebrated for its double class victory at the 1977 Monte Carlo Rally, and a second in Explorer Green, the color of body of the Vision 7S, the 100% electric 7-seater SUV concept which introduced Modern Solid design to Škoda

The driver at the center of the action

In the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo, the driver sits in the center of a minimalist digital cockpit, like in an open-top racing car. The adjustable sports bucket seat, ergonomically designed to contour to the driver’s body, is equipped with a six-point harness in an eye-catching orange/red color. The futuristic-looking carbon steering wheel has a double flat surface at the top and bottom. It was designed in collaboration with expert players who have been racing Gran Turismo for many years. The entire concept of the interior and controls, with its three customizable buttons, is based on the steering wheels of professional gamers. Above the steering wheel, directly in the driver’s field of vision, there is a crystal-shaped power indicator (homage to Czech Bohemian crystal). The cockpit display not only shows the current speed, selected driving mode and battery level, but also acts as a rear-view mirror, showing the area behind the vehicle at all times. In addition, on-board distance sensors alert the driver of the presence of other vehicles nearby, effectively reducing the risk of side collisions.

Impressive performance, sound and driving dynamics

Designed for efficiency and exceptional driving dynamics, the vehicle weighs only 1,300 kilograms and combines a length of approximately 4.41 meters with a width of almost 1.95 meters and a height of just 94.9 centimeters . In total, four electric motors, powered by an 87 kWh lithium-ion battery, ensure an impressive level of performance. The permanent magnet synchronous (brushless) motors are arranged in twin units, two on the front axle and two on the rear axle. Each motor delivers 200 kW and rotates up to 25,000 rpm, giving a total power of 800 kW*. Peak torque is 1,020 Nm, allowing for smooth acceleration via a single-speed transmission. All-wheel drive actively optimizes torque distribution between the two axles for better cornering performance, ensuring a responsive driving experience. The basis of these exceptional driving dynamics is an independent arm, pushrod-type suspension system, similar to those used in Formula E. This further improves high-speed stability, reduces body roll and lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity. vehicle. The dynamic sound of the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo is a special creation of the Škoda development and design team.

Driving through the decades: the Gran Turismo fleet through eras and styles

The Gran Turismo series of racing simulation video games is developed by Polyphony Digital. Released for PlayStation, Gran Turismo games emulate the appearance and performance of a wide selection of vehicles, which are licensed reproductions of real-world automobiles. Gran Turismo 7 features over 400 cars from over 60 car manufacturers. From production models to legendary and rare racing vehicles, from different decades, segments and racing styles, to a wide selection of prototypes, the cars have been meticulously and faithfully recreated in the game.
