The Director General of the National Asbestos Observatory, Annie Rochette, left to retire on September 16.

This passionate about scientific research and teaching, with a solid background in materials science and engineering, contributed to the creation of the ONA two years ago. She put her experiences and skills at the service of the ONA in order to contribute positively to the development of her adopted community, Quebec and more particularly the Thetford Mines region.

She says that after only two years of existence, the organization has become an undeniable asset for the development of a framework for the recovery of asbestos mining residues, acceptable to the communities.

“The ONA is both a tool for developing and sharing rigorous scientific knowledge and a tool for consultation between individuals from all backgrounds, with diverse backgrounds and skills who are keen to collaborate for the future of asbestos-bearing regions and their populations,” she emphasizes.

Louis Laferrière succeeds him as general director of ONA.
