Between Instagram and Pinterest, TikTok launches Notes, its new app
Descriptive text here

What if we added a social network to juggle with on a daily basis? After having been copied on all sides by the competition, today it is TikTok which acts as a follower with Notes.

The Chinese social network announces the limited launch (for the moment only in Australia and Canada) of Notes, a smartphone application separate from TikTok, which allows the sharing of photos and texts, whose design is extremely reminiscent of Pinterest tiles .

A different approach

Knowing full well that what makes it famous is the power of its recommendations algorithm, TikTok Notes obviously does not ignore a “For You” tab, which acts as a home page when the application is first launched.

A home page which, unlike Instagram (the main inspiration for Notes), presents two columns on which tiles clearly evoking Pinterest are distributed. A very short text accompanies each thumbnail, as well as the name of the account that shared it, and the number of likes. Just tap the image to open it in full screen and see all the associated content. You can obviously comment on the publications.

Surprisingly for TikTok, only photos are allowed on Notes. We can also publish several in the form of a carousel.

Easy connection to your TikTok account

Exactly as Instagram did by launching Threads, its competing app to X (formerly Twitter), Notes allows users to connect via their TikTok account. A way to avoid multiplying accounts, but also to easily find your contacts on this new platform.

For the moment, however, we do not know if you can use Notes without first opening a TikTok account. A detail that ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, will probably have to sort out before launching Notes in Europe – the European Union being particularly sensitive to this kind of thing. Recently, Instagram released an update to unlink your Threads account from your Instagram account.

It remains to be seen whether the Notes trials in Australia and Canada are sufficiently conclusive for the brand to consider a more international deployment. The fact remains that it is currently difficult to imagine exactly what kind of audience this — umpteenth — social network is aimed at.
