“I have never seen anything so beautiful”
“I
      have
      never
      seen
      anything
      so
      beautiful”

An astronomical event apparently took place in the Swiss sky on Tuesday evening. Hundreds of news scouts from all over the country sent 20 minutes of recordings. The phenomenon was visible in the night sky between 9:27 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Many suspect a meteorite is behind the phenomenon. Others are sure that it is space debris that burned up in the Earth’s atmosphere. “Or is it a satellite crash?” asks another.

Fabian Mathis from the Astronomical Society of Zurich Unterland assumes that the phenomenon is space debris that entered the atmosphere. “I couldn’t observe it myself, but the images didn’t look like a classic meteorite,” he told 20 Minuten.

According to Mathis, it could have been a disused satellite that had been slowed down for years and now crashed. A disused rocket stage from a previous rocket launch is also a possible cause.

“I have never seen anything so beautiful,” writes a news scout from Allschwil. “There is a giant tail in the sky over Schaffhausen,” writes another. Reports of the event also came from the cantons of Basel, Bern, Zurich, Aargau, Glarus, Lucerne and St. Gallen.
