During the climb, the Czech professional gymnast Natálie Štíchová fell about 70 meters into the depths, and six days later (August 21) she died as a result of the serious accident.

“We will not find out whether she slipped or whether a piece of the rock edge broke off,” the friend, who is not named, is quoted as saying. However, he says that the young woman suddenly lost her footing with one leg and fell to her death. According to the police, the tour to the summit of the Tegelberg is a “challenging climb.”

What is clear is that Štíchová herself repeatedly posed dangerously close to the edge of cliffs, sometimes on high mountains. This is shown in pictures on her Instagram channel. There she repeatedly shared photos and selfies with her around 2,500 followers on mountain tours, including in Austria and Italy. She once wrote that those photos, in which she can be seen doing a handstand, are her “classic souvenirs”.

Dismay over death of Czech professional athlete

Meanwhile, in her Czech homeland, the shock after Štíchová’s death is great. She was a well-known face in the domestic gymnastics scene, had already won numerous medals and trained young talent. “She gave a smile throughout her short life and that is how we will always remember her,” said the Czech Gymnastics Association. “There is no one who did not love her. Our Natálie was the sweetest person,” her mother wrote on Instagram.
