Marcus Thuram scores a hat-trick but leaves injured before returning to the Blues

Taking advantage of the expulsion of the former Monegasque Guillermo Maripan from Torino, Inter Milan won 3-2 on Saturday evening during the 7th day of Serie A. A success obtained thanks to a hat-trick from its French striker Marcus Thuram, who came off with an ankle injury in the second half. Not reassuring before the gathering of the team.

An evening rich in emotions and very contrasting for Marcus Thuram. Inter Milan returned to the heels of the leader of the Italian championship, Naples, thanks to their 3-2 victory against Torino, stunned by an exclusion in the 20th minute and by a hat-trick from their French striker, Saturday during the 7th day. Four days after their easy victory in the Champions League against Red Star Belgrade (4-0), the reigning champion scored a third consecutive victory for the first time this season. The exclusion in the 20th minute of Torino’s Chilean defender, Guillermo Maripan, for a dangerous tackle on Marcus Thuram greatly facilitated his task.

But Inter, in need in September, seems launched, even if it still showed some unusual signs of defensive feverishness which allowed the gap to be reduced by Duvan Zapata (36th) and Nikola Vlasic, from a penalty (86th). Simone Inzaghi’s team, still without injured playmaker Nicolo Barella, confirmed their domination in the 25th minute when Thuram headed in a perfect cross from Alessandro Bastoni. The French center forward doubled the lead, still with a header, ten minutes later.

Thuram co-leader of the scorers rankings

His third goal of the evening, after a scramble in front of the Torino goal, allowed him to return to the ranking of Serie A scorers at the height of Italian striker Mateo Retegui, author earlier in the day of a hat-trick during of Atalanta’s demonstration against Genoa (5-1). We had to go back to May 20, 2023 to find traces of the last hat-trick scored in Serie A by a French striker, namely Olivier Giroud, during AC Milan’s victory against Sampdoria (5-1).

“What is more important than my hat-trick is the victory and the three points, we show that we are the same Inter as last season (…) Scoring three goals in front of our crowd is of course something strong”, admitted Thuram on the DAZN platform, with still very contained joy.

Inzaghi worried after his injury

The only annoyance of the evening for the 2022 world vice-champion, summoned for the League of Nations matches against Israel and Belgium on October 10 and 14, after his exit in the 67th minute to the applause of San Siro, he posed , as soon as he joined the bench, an imposing ice pack on his right ankle tackled by Maripan. “The ankle has turned, it hurts a little, I’m going to see the doctor,” said the striker of the France team (26 caps – 2 goals). His coach Simone Inzaghi, for his part, was a little more concerned: “He took a blow to the tendon, he was complaining a little at the end of the first half. He asked to be replaced afterwards, and that’s worrying for a player who has scored three goals. Our doctors and those of the French team will carry out examinations.
