The Criminal Appeal and Review Chamber overturns the first instance judgment, reveals the RTS Investigation Division. In its eyes, the Islamologist raped Brigitte in a Geneva hotel in 2008. He is sentenced to 3 years in prison, one of which is firm. The case can be brought before the Federal Court.

It is a bolt from the blue. In a highly anticipated decision, the Geneva judges of second instance condemn Tariq Ramadan for the rape more than fifteen years ago in Geneva of the woman the media nicknamed Brigitte

The appeal trial of the Islamologist was held from May 27 to 29, 2024 and the verdict was received this Tuesday morning by the parties.

The first instance trial took place a year earlier, in May 2023. Tariq Ramadan was then acquitted on the benefit of the doubt by the Geneva Criminal Court.

After this major setback, Tariq Ramadan, who has just celebrated his 62nd birthday, can still hold on to a little hope. He has the possibility of appealing to the Federal Court.
