Switzerland is set to offer training and continuing in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) from August 2025. The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) has approved the launch of a project to this effect.

The aim is to develop a new federal title in artificial intelligence at the higher vocational training level, the ICT-Vocational Training Switzerland organisation announced on Wednesday. The clarifications carried out to date support the development of a federal certificate, it added.

The project plans to launch the first training offers in August 2025 and aims to put the first graduates on the job market in 2026.

Absence of formal offers

“By offering a federal title controlled by an independent body, we want to bring serenity to the continuing education market, which is currently flooded with non-formal offers,” explains the director of ICT-Vocational Training Switzerland, Serge Frech, quoted in the press release.

An analysis carried out by the organisation last May shows that there is a strong demand for “a practice-oriented profile at the interface of business and IT”. The demand for AI specialists is considered high in Switzerland and will increase massively in the coming years.

This project is being carried out in collaboration with the Chinese telecoms equipment manufacturer Huawei Technologies, one of the leading companies in artificial intelligence, the press release underlines.
