Around 290 jobs will be cut at TX Group

The TX Group reports stable half-year results, but the pressure on the traditional media business remains high. Tamedia is reorienting itself and concentrating on digital growth, as the media company’s parent company announced on Tuesday night.

Printing activities will be concentrated in Bern, which will lead to the closure of the printing centers in Lausanne and Zurich. Around 200 full-time jobs will be cut in the printing departments. 90 jobs will also be affected in the editorial departments.

The parent company TX Group further announced that the cuts would be subject to a consultation process. Social plans would be implemented, including the possibility of early retirement. The aim of the restructuring is to maintain journalistic quality and lead Tamedia into the digital future.

Publisher Pietro Supino says: “The media world has changed fundamentally over the last two decades. After ongoing adjustments, the time has come for a fundamental reorganization. The Board of Directors has closely monitored the strategy development under the leadership of CEO Jessica Peppel-Schulz. It is aware of the severity of the necessary measures and is committed to achieving the goal of a successful positioning for a digital future.”

TX Group’s total revenue remained stable in the first half of 2024, amounting to 461 million francs. The digital platforms had a positive impact, while the group was affected by falling advertising revenues at Tamedia and “20 Minuten” as well as the declining print business.
