The sale of Luiz Henrique to Zenit Saint Petersburg for a fee of €33 million seemed like a great deal for Olympique Lyonnais. However, the latest developments suggest that the Rhone club could actually recover a much lower sum to that initially planned, which would constitute a bad financial surprise.
A reduced amount?
While OL hoped to pocket the entire 33 million euros from the sale of Henrique thanks to the connection with the Eagle groupowner of Botafogo, it seems that the latter spent around 25 million euros to recruit Artur and Wendel at Zénith. It therefore remains to be seen whether OL will really be able to count on the 33 million from the sale of Henrique, or whether it will be necessary to deduct from that the 25 million spent by Botafogo, underlines Le Progrès. In this case, the final sum would amount to only 8 million eurosfar from initial expectations.
Significant financial implications
This potential financial disappointment could have significant repercussions on Lyon's finances. In fact, OL was counting on this sale to replenish its coffers and give itself additional room to maneuver on the transfer market. Less money coming in could thus force the club to revise its ambitions downwards and to be more cautious in its future investments. OL could actually recover a smaller sum than expected, a situation which risks fueling supporters' concerns about the club's ability to strengthen itself adequately.
