Deloitte published the 28th edition of its report Money Leagueand the finances of the biggest teams on the planet seem to be doing well. The 20 clubs that generated the most revenue during the previous financial year generated nearly 11.2 billion euros, an increase of 6% compared to the 2022/2023 season. At the top of this ranking, and for the second year in a row, is Real Madrid. The Merengue club achieved the brilliant performance of becoming the first football club to reach, and even exceed, one billion euros in revenue over a year, with a turnover amounting to 1.0455 billion euros. .

For comparison, the White House had generated “only” 831.4 million euros during the 2022/2023 season, which represents an increase of 26%. In the top 10, only Arsenal is doing better with 35% better than last season. The renovation of the Bernabéu is the big reason for this increase. Madrid’s new venue helped achieve an annual turnover linked to match days reaching 248 million, a doubling of income. The Spanish club also saw its commercial revenues increase by 19%, from 403 to 482 million euros, notably thanks to an increased volume of merchandising and new partnerships.

3 French clubs in the top 20

On the other hand, it’s a cold shower for its Catalan rival, FC Barcelona. Fourth last year, the Blaugranas fell two places and are in sixth place with €760.3 million in revenue. This represents a drop of 5% compared to 2023 (€800 million). Second last year, Manchester City still occupies the same place, but still managed to increase its revenue slightly, from €826 million to €838 million. The podium for 2023 remains unchanged since Saint-Germain is still third. Like the Skyblues, the capital club saw an increase of 1%, which allowed it to reach €806 million in revenue (compared to €802 million). Once again, Paris is doing well, not thanks to Ligue 1 rights, but with its commercial deals, which represent almost half of its revenues (€391 million), and its ticketing (€170 million).

For comparison, PSG manages to generate twice as much money as Manchester City (€88 million) on match days, with fewer stars and a smaller stadium (48,500 seats compared to 53,000 for the Etihad). . It should be noted that there are now three French clubs in Deloitte’s top 20. Twentieth last year, Olympique de moved up one place (19th). With €287 million in revenue, the Marseille club increased its earnings by 11% (€258 million in 2023). But unlike PSG, it is TV rights that generate the most money for OM (€117 million). On the other hand, if commercial partnerships bring in less (€102 million), they have doubled in one year (+€57 million in 2023). Finally, despite criticism of John Textor’s management, Olympique Lyonnais made very good progress, moving from 29th to 20th place. With €264.1 million in revenue, Les Gones recorded an increase of 33% (€199 million)! A result acquired in particular thanks to commercial revenues which increased from €76 million to €135 million.
