Ivan Leko continues the miracles at Sclessin: “It’s easier to be champion with Bruges or Genk than to be in the top 6 with this Standard” – All football

With the statistics of a team chasing its maintenance, Standard is on the verge of the top 6. According to Hein Vanhaezebrouck, Ivan Leko could be elected coach of the year if he manages to qualify Rouches for the Champions Play-Offs.

This Sunday, Standard signed the first 6/6 of its season on the pitch in Saint-Trond. A success which, firstly, allowed the Rouches to move away from the red zone, but also to come back to within one point of La Gantoise and sixth place.

However, we know the difficulties experienced by Number 16 this season. With a core made up of young players and players often on loan, Standard has the worst attack in the championship, with fifteen goals in twenty-two matches.

“It is also the team which shoots the least often, which has the fewest passes in the final third of the field, which has the fewest corners and which concedes most of the set phases”, launched Hein Vanhaezebrouck in his analysis weekly at Newspaper.

Ivan Leko, coach of the year?

The former La Gantoise coach points out that Standard did not score in half of the matches (11/22). “It’s the same record as Kortrijk, these are the figures of a team which is fighting to maintain itself. It seems impossible to me that they will get by in this way for another eight games.”

According to the former coach, the schedule of Standard, which must face the first five to complete its classic phase, will be too difficult to overcome. “I can’t believe they will be in Play-Offs 1. If that’s the case, Ivan Leko could very clearly be voted coach of the year. It’s easier to win the title with Genk or Bruges than playing the top 6 with this Standard’, concluded Hein Vanhaezebrouck.
