The National Broadcasting and Television Company celebrated, on Sunday in Rabat, the winners of the “Al Idaa Al Watania” survey dedicated to the best athletes of the year 2024 in Morocco.
After a year marked by many great performances by Moroccan athletes on the national, continental and international levels, the opportunity presented itself to put them in the spotlight.
In the women’s category, Amina Dehhaoui is voted best sportswoman of the year 2024 for having won the gold medal (less than 55 kg) at the Junior World Taekwondo Championships in South Korea. In the men’s category, Soufiane El Bakkali won the title of best sportsman of the year 2024 for winning the gold medal at the Olympic Games (Paris 2024) and retaining his title in the 3,000 m steeplechase.
This recognition is offered to them after having occupied the top of the ranking in the survey carried out by the sports department reporting to the “Radio Information Department” of the SNRT. The votes were collected from the ranks of representatives of more than 40 media, including national audiovisual media in addition to written and electronic media. The first survey was, as a reminder, carried out in 1974. For the moment, it is in its 50th edition.
As for the second and third places, they are respectively occupied, in the men’s category, by the surfer Ramzi Boukhiam who won the silver medal at the ISA World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico and by Younes Saddiki who received in 2024 the gold medal at the African Judo Championship (less than 60 k) in Cairo.
In the women’s category, second place is occupied, in this ranking of the best athletes, by the boxer Khadija El Mardi for having won the gold medal at the African Championship in Kinshasa and for having reached the quarter-final at the Olympics in Paris. She is followed by judoka Soumiya Iraoui, winner of the gold medal at the African Judo Championship in Cairo.
On the occasion of this ceremony, the SNRT also presented Awards of Excellence to an elite of Moroccan athletes in recognition of their distinguished achievements in 2024. Starting with the national Olympic team which, for the first time, won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. In turn, Tarik Sektioui, coach of the U23 national team, was honored for his performances. This Prize was also awarded to Sanae Massaoudi, striker of the Royal Armed Forces Sports Association, for having been selected best interclub player in Africa for the CAF Awards 2024.
The Awards of Excellence were also awarded to the Moroccan champions of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. They are Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi who won the gold medal in the marathon (T12) by breaking the world record, the athlete Aymane El Haddaoui who won the precious metal of the 400 m event (T47) by also breaking the world record, as well as the athlete Mouncef Bouja winner of the 400m (T12).
