The return of Dante Vanzeir to Belgium had been in the air for several days. It is now official.
Dante Vanzeir will therefore have stayed two years in MLS. The season having ended in the American championship, it was in the middle of a rest period that the 26-year-old striker negotiated his transfer to La Gantoise.
The Buffalos were looking to sign a forward following injury to Max Dean until the end of the season. The arrival of Vanzeir is quite coherent since his profile is relatively similar to that of the young Englishman, who distinguished himself in the first part of the season.
After the departure of Wouter Vrancken at the start of the week, this is another decision likely to appease the supporters, who were very critical of the management, saddened by their team’s season.
-A choice reinforcement for the fight for the top 6
The departure of the first undoubtedly accelerated the arrival of the second: as written yesterday, Vrancken was not a big fan of Vanzeir, whom he worked with when the striker was on loan to Mechelen. The collaboration had not been a great success, the player then decided to sign in D1B…at Union Saint-Gilloise.
Two and a half years later, the Unionists sold him for five million to the New York Red Bulls. The amount, not yet communicated, is lower this time, Vanzeir entering his last year of contract. He remains on a season with 6 goals and 10 assists in MLS. Will he be able to save Ghent’s place in the top 6?
