Gu cruised to victory with a spectacular score of 81.22, giving her the 18th World Cup victory of her career. This triumph also placed her at the top of the general ranking of the Freeski World Cup.
Reflecting on his performance, Gu expressed his joy: “I worked a lot mentally. I’m so happy it paid off. The win makes a strong statement heading into the 2026 Winter Games. Gu showed she remains a dominant force despite her limited slopestyle appearances in recent years.

Gu has only competed in four slopestyle World Cup events since 2020, but she has proven that she remains a top competitor, handling pressure with remarkable calm. “I’m making my return to slopestyle here in Laax. I haven’t competed in a slopestyle competition in a year,” she said before the event. “My goal is to successfully complete the descent I have in mind. »
Mathilde Gremaud, reigning Laax Open champion, finished third in front of her home crowd, while Canadian Megan Oldham took silver. Gu’s high score after the first round allowed him to take a casual lap in the second round, underscoring his dominance.

After her victory, Gu reflected on the emotional significance of it: “It is very special to me, especially before the big competition next year. I couldn’t be happier. I consider myself a downhill skier at heart, even if it’s been a long time. »
Gu also praised Laax’s course, highlighting its creativity and the efforts of the event organizers: “This course was a lot of fun. A big congratulations to the Laax team for organizing it!
