Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas is reportedly ready to do a major cleanup within the team, which was languishing in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division at the time of writing this Monday morning.
According to the media RG.org, we could soon see a fire sale in Pittsburgh. Everyone would be available, with a few exceptions.
“A source knowledgeable about the situation has confirmed that everyone on the current roster with the exception of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust as well as the two youngsters Owen Pickering and Philip Tomasino are available at the appropriate price,” indicated journalist Marco D’Amico.
If the status of Kristopher Letang is more or less clear, there would be a real intention to get rid of Erik Karlsson. But this will be impossible without retaining a portion of his immense salary, with an average annual value of $10 million.
“He can still help a team,” the source said. With the salary cap going up, you never know.”
-Dubas is in a strange in-between place. He doesn’t want to rebuild until Crosby hangs up his skates, but he still wants to prepare for the club’s future.
“He wants to win for Sid and Geno, but he believes he can also build for the future,” said the source cited by RG.org.
