McLaren F1 CEO Zak Brown said that he did not consider the Woking -based team as the favorite for victory in 2025.
The past few years have been roller coaster for the famous Formula 1 team – Brown even admitted that the company had come close to the collapse in the 2020 covid crisis.
“We were on the verge of bankruptcy. If we had not received an injection of liquidity from our shareholders in Bahrain and an external financial investor, things would not have continued. But McLaren has been profitable since 2023.”
That's not all, McLaren won the world manufacturers' world championship in 2024, even if Lando Norris was not at the end of the dream with the pilot title.
Red Bull officials, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko in particular, designate McLaren and Ferrari as the first favorites for 2025, admitting that they have the fastest and regular cars at present.
“It would be arrogant to think like that,” replies the American. “For me, there are four teams that can win. And we are one of them.”
The boss of the team, Andrea Stella, however recognizes a beautiful asset. A big step forward for McLaren was to be able to fully control the fate of its blower tests and its aerodynamic development.
-“When we were still in Cologne at Toyota, we finished a new piece and put two days to get it into a blower. Now we can test it in two hours.”
The disadvantage of being the title champion of the manufacturers, however, is that McLaren is now the team that will have the least blower time in 2025. Stella is not too worried.
“We focus on quality rather than quantity. We have increasingly strengthened our knowledge and introduces more effective test procedures.”
