IMSA / Daytona – Neel Jani dominates a wet and weather-delayed Session 6 at the Roar

Initially scheduled for 3:45 p.m. French time, the sixth session of the Roar before the Rolex 24 at Daytona only finally started at 6 p.m. time due to a weather alert put in place around the Florida tri-oval.

After the showers and gusts, the competitors were able to set off for an hour of driving, the last for the GTP drivers and the majority of the GTD PROs, since only the Bronze drivers in LMP2 and GTD will be racing on the track this evening (10 p.m.) .

In terms of time, and on a wet track, it was Neel Jani (Porsche 963 n°5 – Proton Competition) who set the pace for this session 6, completing his best lap in 1’45″433, far from the best absolute time which should remain to the credit of Dries Vanthoor (BMW M Hybrid V8 n°24 – BMW M Team RLL) since session n°2.

The unrepresentative top 3 of this session is completed by the second private Porsche operated by JDC-Miller Motorsports of Gianmaria Bruni, clocked at 0.446, and the No. 31 Cadillac V-Series.R – Cadillac Whelen of Jack Aitken , 3rd by eight tenths Five GTPs, including the two official Porsche 963s, did not take part in the session.

In LMP2, United Autosports USA and Paul di Resta dominated the category with the No. 22 Oreca 07, best time in 1’49″870. Two Orecas, those of Riley and Era Motorsport did not compete in the session .

Olli Millroy (Ferrari 296 GT3 n°70 – Inception Racing), entered in GTD, set the best overall time in GT, in 1’57″033 and preceded four other GTDs. The best GTD PRO, the Corvette Z06 GT3. R n°3 – Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller of Alexander Sims, finished 6th in GT in 1’57″672.

Three red flags neutralized the session, the last due to the conditions, five minutes from the checkerboard.
