Standard has very little money to strengthen itself this winter. The Liège club must therefore be creative to bring quality players to Ivan Leko.
The Croatian coach spoke about this delicate situation in Het Belang van Limburg: “We are targeting players lacking playing time at their club, as we did last summer with Andi Zeqiri. The players we are talking to know they won’t get exorbitant salaries by signing here.”
Everyone is a winner
Leko, however, believes that there are many advantages to signing for Standard: “They can come and relaunch at a magnificent club, play in a superb stadium, in front of passionate supporters, and train in very good facilities. It’s win-win for the club and the player.”
Many players on loan
Standard has already loaned nine players this season. If the club has a purchase option for Camara and Zeqiri, other players like Szalai and Hountondji will return to their club at the end of the season.
-The takeover of the club, expected in the coming months, could also have an impact on the future of some of its players. Indeed, it is obvious that players like Camara and Zeqiri will be kept if the means are there.
