The Ethics Commission of theInternational Cycling Union (UCI) announced its decisions regarding the behavior of two leaders of the women’s team Velopro – Alphamotorhomes : the sports director Gert Vervoortand the manager Eddy Van Bunder. These measures come after an investigation into allegations of psychological and sexual harassment against the sports director. Suspensions of five and three years
Gert Vervoortformer sports director of Velopro – Alphamotorhomeswas sentenced to a five-year suspension from all activities related to cycling, from July 16, 2024. This sanction, which will apply if he returns to a position subject to the code of ethics of theUCIfollows serious accusations. He was found guilty of violations of articles relating to the protection of physical and mental integrity as well as sexual harassment and abuse. The facts include inappropriate physical contact, exploiting his position of authority.
As for Eddy Van Bunderformer manager, he received a three-year suspension, including one and a half years suspended, and a fine of 5,000 CHF. Its sanction is conditional on participation in a program on the protection of individuals. He was found guilty of negligence and a breach of his duty to report inappropriate behavior by Vervoortdespite his position of responsibility implying the duty to ensure the protection of all members of the team.
