Our Lions return empty-handed from the Tissot Arena after their frustrating defeat with a score of 3-2. The post-match is presented to you by our main partner, Vaudoise Assurances.
Energy, desire and technical gaps
Both teams approached their match with one specific directive: to prevent their opponent from easily gaining an advantage. The intentions of the two teams were therefore obvious to the spectators at the Tissot Arena, with a direct game oriented towards the offensive and an intense defense along the boards. Despite the excellent attitude of our Lions and the Biel residents, a few technical errors disrupted the rhythm of the start of the match, preventing an often liberating opening of the score.
In front of the cages, the presence of Antoine Keller was important in reassuring his teammates. Absent from the Lausanne cages for many weeks, the young goalkeeper was calm against the opposing offensives.
A boost
When the match resumed, our Lions displayed new offensive intentions, carried by the Raffl/Jäger/Bozon trio. From the first seconds of the second period, Raffl found himself alone in front of the goalkeeper after a few seconds, while Jäger and Bozon scored the two Vaud goals of this period. The most dangerous player at the start of the match, number 94 showed opportunism by slipping a powerful shot between the opposing goalkeeper’s pads. His linemate, meanwhile, took advantage of a lucky rebound caused by the referee to recover the puck and eliminate the goalie with an incisive dribble.
The beginning of regrets
Every defeat is difficult to accept for professional athletes. However, some leave an even more bitter taste when you look closely at the parameters of the match. The Biennois found the fault twice thanks to powerplay situations during the last third. Undisciplined during the second half of the match, the Vaudois increased their behavioral errors, thus offering several opportunities to the Zealanders. In the space of ten minutes, the Lions saw their lead disappear before the situation completely turned against them until the defeat with a score of 3-2.
However, in a 5v3 situation for almost 2 minutes at the end of the match, the team of Geoff Ward did not find realism in the face of an excellent Luis Janett in his cage. The Biel goalkeeper made a series of decisive saves at the end of the match, giving his teammates 3 very important points in their rise in ranking.
The evolution of the score
29e Tim Bozon (Raffl, Sklenicka) 0-1; 31e Ken Jäger 0-2; 35e Anthony Greco (Allowed) 1-2; 41e Anthony Greco (Sallinen, Hofer) 2-2; 51e Fabio Hofer (Greco, Christen).
