Colton Herta is fed up with the possibility of getting a seat in F1 coming back to him regularly, without being accompanied by concrete plans. The Andretti driver could be linked to Cadillac for 2026, but he assures that he is not even thinking about obtaining the Superlicence.
“I guess the answer to that question is that I didn’t even know what the math was for getting a Superlicense” Herta replied. “If that happens, great, and then I’ll have a decision to make if they still want me. If that doesn’t happen, then poor me, I’m stuck in IndyCar. I’ll manage in both cases.”
Tired of being at the center of rumors, the American isn’t even sure what he would do if he had this opportunity, and he wants to concentrate on his career across the Atlantic: “I’m not at all concerned about this issue. I feel like I’ve been talked about for half a decade.”
“I’ve had the carrot in front of me for a while. I’m a little tired of this situation, and I just want to drive at this point and focus on IndyCar this year and focus on winning a championship .”
“And if anything comes of it, I’ll have to think about it. It’s not sure yet. All my friends and family are here in the United States, and I don’t know where I’ll go, so it’s a big decision to make, if I have to make this decision.”
Kyle Kirkwood, his teammate at Andretti and one of IndyCar’s most promising talents, admits he would be interested in a chance in F1: “Of course it would be interesting. But at the same time, I love what I’m doing here in IndyCar. It’s what I always wanted to be: an IndyCar driver. It allows me to stay in the United States. United, in the place where I grew up.”
“I was born and raised in Jupiter, Florida, and I still live in Jupiter, Florida – and that’s what I love about IndyCar, it allows Americans to at least stay home. It’s a two-way street, of course I’m interested, but I wouldn’t be upset if I wasn’t given the opportunity, if you understand correctly.”
