It’s always special to see guys who played (or play) hockey buy sports teams.
The most spectacular case remains that of Mario Lemieux (we know the circumstances which led the great #66 to become a shareholder of his Penguins), but there are others.
Recently, Zach Hyman’s family purchased an OHL club (the Bulldogs) and it caused quite a stir.
But this morning, the guys from the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast (Paul Bissonnette, Ryan Whitney, Mike Grinnell and Keith Yandle) announced, during their podcast, that they had purchased an ECHL club. And a small part of me still wonders if this is a joke.
There is talk of an expansion club located in Greensboro, North Carolina. The name will be revealed this evening.
Obviously, you will understand that Paul Bissonnette, in the segment of his podcast where he announced that his boys and had bought him a team, put in more than the client asked for.
He said he wanted to be controlling and fire the media that was going to speak against him. Big Biz.
Obviously, we will agree on the fact that Bissonnette puts in more than the client asks for here. On the other hand, it is clear that the North Carolina club, because of the owners, will become a team that we will have to follow extensively in the coming years.
And we can’t say that about all ECHL clubs.
