In a press release, the Roman club gave a little more details about its decision. Lazio says it is “shocked to see the images” as well as “reading the statements that accompanied them”. She believes that the “facts are serious” and that it is not possible “to be associated with an individual who, on his own initiative, has made the continuation of the relationship unacceptable”. Especially with “the symbolism of the eagle as the club’s pennant”.

Bernabè, a troubled past

The 56-year-old Spaniard is far from unknown to Roman fans. Indeed, it is rather appreciated in the aisles of the Olympic Stadium in Rome, but much less by the managers. In 2021, he was suspended for a fascist salute with an outstretched arm and cries of “Duce” towards the club ultras nostalgic for Mussolini.

Lazio is also trying to get rid of this label and adopts zero tolerance for the excesses of its supporters.

Before learning of his dismissal, Juan Bernabè spoke on Radio 24 about the published photos. “I like sex. […] For me, nudity is something normal, because I grew up in a naturist family and with an open mind. I don’t understand why this photo is being presented as pornography.”

He shot himself in the foot again by mentioning Benito Mussolini. “I admire him a lot. Being part of Lazio is an honor in every sense of the word, it makes me feel more of a man.”
