A monster ovation for Marc-André Fleury in Vegas

The Canadian did not play yesterday.

He will return to action tomorrow evening, when he will be in Salt Lake City to face André Tourigny’s team.

But there were still five games presented in the NHL on Sunday:

1: Bravo to the Golden Knights

The Golden Knights did not do things the right way with Marc-André Fleury.

The goalie was traded against peanuts in July 2021 after winning his first career Vezina Trophy and the Golden Knights’ decision caused widespread discussion.

On the other hand, the club’s supporters wanted to give the Quebecer some love yesterday, in what could be his last visit to Vegas.

Fleury started by signing autographs before the match:

During the meeting, the fans on site gave him a huge ovation which lasted a few minutes.

The Golden Knights celebrated his career and T-Mobile Arena exploded afterward.

It was a nice moment and we could see that the goalkeeper was emotional:

The Golden Knights finally won the game against the Wild by a score of 4-1, but it was Marc-André Fleury who stole the show even if he wasn’t playing.

At the end of the game, with a few seconds left on the clock, the fans started shouting Fleury’s name again in the stands:

Congratulations to the Golden Knights fans.

Because if there is anyone who deserves to receive so much love after what happened a few years ago… It’s Marc-André Fleury.

2: Cutter Gauthier takes care of the Hurricanes

I don’t know if Cutter Gauthier had a nice evening Saturday night.

He was playing his first career game in Philadelphia and fans let him know he wasn’t welcome in town.

The American was shut out against the team that drafted him 5th overall in 2022.

On the other hand, we saw last night why the Flyers made the decision to select him so high in the draft three years ago.

Gauthier demonstrated the quality of his shot against the Hurricanes:

The forward had only five goals on the clock before yesterday’s match in Carolina.

He can now say that he has seven… Because he was also the one who ended the debate in overtime:

The young Ducks had a big test on the table against the Hurricanes and they were able to win by a score of 3-2.

It is by winning matches like this that a young club undergoing reconstruction is able to progress.

3: Lightning big guns take care of Penguins

If you’re a regular DLC reader, you know I like to say this: when the best players on a club perform like the best players on the ice, it helps you win.

The Lightning are lucky because they have some good, productive players on their roster.

Yesterday, Brandon Hagel performed in Pittsburgh:

Hagel (a goal and an assist) was good, Jake Guentzel collected two assists, Anthony Cirelli scored once in addition to adding an assist…

Oh, and there is also Nikita Kucherov who stood out by scoring two goals.

It’s hard to ask for better:

The efforts of the Lightning big guns were enough to give the team a 5-2 win over the Penguins.

Note that this is a seventh defeat for the Penguins in their last ten games. Things aren’t going so well in Pittsburgh…

4: No problem for the against the Stars

The Canadian played well against the Stars on Saturday night at the Bell Centre.

That said, the Dallas team was visiting Ottawa yesterday (two games in two days) with the aim of signing an eighth consecutive victory, but the Sens showed up to play.

They scored two quick goals (39 seconds apart) to take the lead in the second period:

Matthew Highmore scored his first goal in a Senators uniform in the 3rd period and it allowed the Ottawa club to win 3-2 against the Stars.

A victory that feels good for the Sens… And for Dallas, it is a first defeat since December 27.

5: The Red Wings are too strong for the Kraken

Were the Red Wings in good shape yesterday?

I’m going to answer this question in a rather simple way: yesterday, the Wings scored not one, not two, not three… But four goals (!!!) in the first eight minutes of the game.

The match was presented in Detroit and the fans there were delirious:

The Red Wings never looked back.

Even at one point, it was 6-0 in favor of Detroit…

In the end, the Wings won by a score of 6-2 and there, things are starting to become interesting for the club.

The Wings have won their last seven games and are only two points out of a playoff spot currently.

They are 7-1-0 since the arrival of Todd McLellan:
