Football: the imbroglio between Sion and Baltazar is “a non-affair”

Baltazar Costa and FC Sion are officially linked until June 30, 2025, according to the specialized site Transfermarkt. So obviously, the contract extension of the Brazilian midfielder had to be among the priority files to be dealt with for the sporting director of the Valais club, Barthélémy Constantin.

And the institution with the 13 Swiss Cups has visibly worked well on the renewal of the lease of its 24-year-old player, who arrived at Tourbillon in July 2018. “I am announcing it to you this evening on the radio exclusively: Baltazar has signed his contract and will be a player of FC Sion for three more years,” revealed the Sédunois leader, Sunday evening, on the airwaves of Rhône FM.

Issue? In the wake of this statement, the half born in Jaragua denied this information on his social networks.

“I would like to inform everyone that to date I have not yet signed my contract renewal with Sion,” Baltazar Costa wrote on Instagram. And if I signed a document on this subject, it was without my consent. Then to specify: “The parties concerned are in discussions to reach a definition (editor’s note: conclusion).»

Contacted to discuss this imbroglio, Barthélémy Constantin remained straight in his boots. “In September, President (editor’s note: Christian Constantin) warned me that he had resolved the Baltazar case. The player then signed a new contract, accompanied by a salary increase. Since then, he has never come to complain to the club that he was getting a bigger salary.

The sports director says he is “calm” about the situation concerning his 24-year-old, now under contract with the Valais institution until 2028.

“The player signed something totally valid and he was not under duress, as he suggested on his social networks,” continues Barth Constantin. If that had been the case, he would have immediately taken matters into his own hands and refused his new salary. Nothing has happened over the past four months. So it’s a non-issue.”

If this saw the light of day in the middle of the transfer window, it is certainly because the representatives of Baltazar – absent during the renewal of the lease last September – received interest in their player. Which would explain this sudden outburst in the public square.

FC Sion resumes the Super League championship this Saturday (6 p.m.), at home, against Grasshopper. Without his Brazilian midfielder, already out due to a foot injury.
